Tasting Notes

Vale D. Maria White Porto is a blend of wines produced with many different grape varieties from vineyards of around 15–80 years of age. These vineyards are planted as a field blend, with varieties such as Rabigato, Codega de Larinho, Arinto, Gouveio, etc… Grapes are foot-trodden in traditional granite fermenting tanks, or lagars. Brandy is added to the fermenting lagar to stop fermentation and raise the alcohol level. The wine is racked into old oak pipes or barrels and left to age for an average of three years. The young fruit of the White Porto is therefore maintained, but a mellowness is also captured. With notes of apricots, lilac and violets this White Porto is quite complex.
